Project:

Hidden voices: training for ISVAs in the military community

Project summary:

This project evaluated a bespoke Military Sexual Trauma (MST) training package, co-developed by the CMWR with LimeCulture CIC and ex-servicewomen, designed to upskill Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVAs) to better support military victim-survivors. Delivered to 89 ISVAs from 56 organisations across England and Wales, the training addressed a significant gap, with the majority of ISVAs reporting having never received specialist training to support military victim-survivors. Pre- and post-training surveys showed substantial improvements across the board in confidence supporting MST victim-survivors, and overall positive feedback. The findings point to a scalable, easily replicable model for building military cultural competency across civilian sexual violence services, with clear potential for wider rollout to other frontline professionals and related issues such as military domestic abuse.
