Project:

Lived experience of female veterans in criminal justice & prison systems

Project Summary:

There is insufficient UK data available about female veteran offenders (FVO) within the criminal and justice system (CJS) and His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), and no current records of their lived experience within offender pathways or institutions. As a result, there is a distinct lack of representative empirical research data, which is crucial to understanding where improvements to current support structures can be made. The principal aim of this qualitative PhD research project is to record narrative accounts of the unique experiences in the FVO journey, and explore any additional needs they may have specifically related to their gender and veteran status.

This project is undertaken with the support of His Majesty’s Prison and Probation service (HMPPS) and in collaboration with CFO Veteran Lead Carrie Rogers.
